The New York Knicks made a strong statement in Game 1 of the 2026 NBA Finals, overcoming a double-digit deficit to defeat the San Antonio Spurs 105-95 on Wednesday night.
Led by Jalen Brunson’s outstanding performance, the Knicks battled back after trailing by 14 points in the second half and finished the game with a dominant closing run to secure the victory on the road.
Brunson Leads the Charge
Jalen Brunson starred for New York, scoring a game-high 30 points and providing the leadership the Knicks needed during their comeback. Karl-Anthony Towns added 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, recording an important double-double performance.
OG Anunoby also played a key role, contributing 17 points as New York continued its impressive postseason form.
Historic Winning Streak Continues
With the victory, the Knicks extended their playoff winning streak to 12 consecutive games, joining a select group of teams in NBA history to achieve such a remarkable run.
The win also marked another milestone. San Antonio had never lost a Game 1 in an NBA Finals series before, entering the contest with a perfect record in championship openers. New York became the first team to break that streak.
Wembanyama Shines Despite Defeat
For the Spurs, Victor Wembanyama delivered a strong statistical performance with 26 points and 12 rebounds in his NBA Finals debut. However, he struggled with shooting efficiency throughout the game.
Stephon Castle added 17 points, while Julian Champagnie and Dylan Harper each scored 16 points for San Antonio.
Looking Ahead to Game 2
Despite the loss, the Spurs remain confident as the series continues. With Game 2 set to be played in San Antonio, the team will look to respond quickly and avoid falling into a deeper series deficit.
Meanwhile, the Knicks have gained early momentum and now hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven championship series.
